Community Safety and Well-Being Planning – Webinar – 2019-02-15

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS) will be presenting a webinar about community safety and well-being planning in Ontario for the HSJCC Network. Since 2009, the Public Safety Division at MCSCS has been working on a modernized approach to community safety and well-being. This process consisted of three phases, each of which culminated in the release of a booklet. This work strongly supports the new legislative requirements related to community safety and well-being planning, which came into force on January 1, 2019, as an amendment to the current Police Services Act. The third booklet directly supports this new legislation by highlighting the Community Safety and Well-being Planning Framework and associated guidance documents to help communities as they engage in the planning process. It encourages a collaborative approach to identifying local priority risks to safety and well-being and implementing evidence-based strategies to address those risks, with a focus on social development, prevention and risk intervention.

This webinar will include an overview of:
• the new legislative requirements related to Community Safety and Well-Being (CSBW) planning;
• the CSWB framework; and
• provincial tools and resources to support CSWB planning, including how to utilize the Risk-driven Tracking Database to inform the planning process.
