Empowering Black Futures: Laying the Groundwork
April 4 @ 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm
The Empowering Black Futures Series consists of three modules that explore the holistic impact of Africentric social work and community programming on Black youth and families. These modules will follow a webinar on the Foundations of Africentric Social Work (March 24th, 12-1:30 PM ET) providing foundational information on Africentric Social Work theory, practices and delivery in individual and community social work practice. You may register for the webinar by visiting the “Upcoming Webinars” section of the OASW Learning Centre page.
This module, Laying the Groundwork will provide an overview of the pillars, strength-based practices and historical origins of Africentric social work. Participants will examine current impacts of anti-Black racism on Black youth, families and communities in Canada, and the abilities of Africentric social work to culturally respond to Black youth experiences and psychosocial needs.
