F.O.C.U.S. Toronto Situation Tables: Furthering Our Community by Uniting Services

A/S Sgt. Brian Smith has been with the TPS for 34 years and oversees the Community Services Section (CSS) of the Community Partnerships and Engagement Unit. This includes the MCIT (Mobile Crisis Intervention Teams) Program, F.O.C.U.S, Military Veteran Wellness Program, Preventing Violent Extremism Program, and the Seniors/Vulnerable Persons portfolio, and the TPS Mental Health Strategy portfolio. Specific to FOCUS, Brian serves as co-lead for the F.O.C.U.S Toronto Situation Tables alongside his City of Toronto and United Way of Greater Toronto colleagues. FOCUS is a collaborative risk-driven approach model of over 168 Community and Gov’t Agencies that is a bedrock component of Toronto’s community safety and well-being plan. Brian has worked collaboratively across systems to scale the FOCUS model from a small pilot that began in 2013 to its current form of six tables meeting weekly. As a criminal investigator, police educator, and community police officer, Brian has received National and International accreditations. He holds a B.Ed (Adult) from Brock University.
