Housing and Homelessness in Peterborough: A Forum on Systemic Issues, Structural Drivers, and Solutions to Homelessness Locally

The Research for Social Change Lab and A Question of Care (QoC) are partnering to put on a forum on housing and homelessness in Peterborough, Ontario. This forum will focus on systemic and structural drivers and solutions to homelessness. This in-person event will be engaging and participative, including a strategic analysis of power to prioritize key goals, roles, and responsibilities. It will include the following interactive presentations:

  • Investigation Into Peterborough’s Housing and Homelessness System by Naomi Nichols and Mary Anne Martin from the Research for Social Change Lab
  • Research on Government Responsibilities for Addressing Homelessness and How Mid-Sized Cities Are Addressing the Housing and Homelessness Crisis Across Ontario by Lilian Dart from the Peterborough Drug Strategy
  • Convening Community Collaboration During Crisis by Jim Russell and Betsy Farrar from the United Way

A continental breakfast will be provided thanks to support from the Research for Social Change Lab.

The goals for this forum are:

  • To share the results of the Lab’s investigation of Peterborough’s housing and homelessness system, highlighting what they heard is working well and what needs improvement from service users and those delivering this system.
  • To receive feedback from participants on the findings of this investigation.
  • To examine specific responsibilities for addressing homelessness held by different levels of government.
  • To look at examples of how mid-sized cities are addressing the housing and homelessness crisis across Ontario.
  • To help establish new connections and collaborations between organizations, providers, and community members.
  • To provide an opportunity to ask questions and engage across disciplines and sectors.
  • To conduct a strategic analysis of power and shape key priorities and actions.
