Incorporating newcomers’ spirituality and religion in mental health care
February 16 @ 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
A 2021 Statistics Canada study found that religion and spirituality play an integral role in the lives of newcomers. The report states that persons “born outside Canada are more likely to report having a religious affiliation, consider their religious and spiritual beliefs important to how they live their lives, and to engage in religious activities in groups or on their own”.
This webinar discusses the importance of religion and spirituality for the mental health of newcomers and how to address religiosity in psychiatric care. The presentation will also highlight religious competence, cultural competence, and protective factors for religion and spirituality.
