Mental Health in the Black Community: A Speaker Series

2020-02-04 @ 6:00 pm 8:00 pm

Are you interested in learning more about the current landscape of mental health in the Black community? This speaker series aims to foster a safe, inclusive environment whereby the Black community and its allies can collectively break the stigma and increase awareness on mental health. Experts in the field will be sharing their experience as well as research pertaining to this topic, which will be followed by a Q & A panel period with the audience. The evening will conclude with a period of time devoted to informal networking.

We are pleased to be featuring Dr. Fatimah Jackson-Best and Kimberley Moore as our speakers for our first session.

Dr. Fatimah Jackson-Best is a public health researcher with a specialization in mental health and whose work focuses on communities in Canada and the Caribbean. She holds a PhD from the University of Toronto Dalla Lana School of Public Health.

Kimberley Moore earned her Master of Science in Social Work from Columbia University and worked with New York City-based anti-violence and social justice initiatives for a number of years before returning to Toronto. Prior to practicing as a Social Worker, she worked and organized with community programming initiatives for racialized children and young adults in East Scarborough.
