Narrative Therapy Approaches to Trauma: Double-storied Accounts

January 10 @ 12:00 pm 1:30 pm

Narrative Therapy approaches assist people in reclaiming their lives from trauma stories and suggest that there is always another story. These are alternative stories of hope, acts of resistance, skills in living and surviving and the many unacknowledged ways in which people respond to hardship.

This webinar invites practitioners to consider the context of people’s lives -i.e. poverty, race, patriarchy, and living conditions that can lead to injustice. These considerations are important as it reframes trauma as social justice and examines structural systems of power that are a part of people’s struggles. This webinar will explore and question the taken-for-granted understandings in mainstream trauma. Moreover, it will be of interest to anyone looking for hopeful and helpful ideas and practices for responding to trauma as well as ways to politicize and de-pathologize trauma.
