Opioid-related harms among older adults in Ontario
September 24 @ 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
This webinar presents key findings from a new report examining opioid use disorder and opioid toxicity harms among older adults in Ontario. Presenters discuss the circumstances surrounding opioid toxicity deaths and what the findings mean for policy, health system planning and the evolving care and support needs of an aging population.
Older adults with opioid use disorder are often overlooked in research, as well as service planning and delivery. As this population grows, healthcare and social service systems need to be prepared to respond to substance use alongside the changing health and social needs that can come with age. The report findings highlight gaps in the current response and considerations for building services that better meet the needs of older adults who use opioids.
