Trauma In The Midst of Trauma: Pandemic Pivots in Children & Youth Mental Health Services

How do we attend to trauma in the midst of trauma? What are the effective strategies that support caregivers, youth & ourselves to better take care of our well being during a pandemic? This webinar will review some practical strategies that we can use to help shift our brains during distress & create new stories to help us enhance our wellbeing, & that of our clients, particularly caregivers & youth.
Barbara Ward, Mental Health Lead with the Waterloo Region District School Board is a leader in children’s mental health with over 30 years experience in the field. Her training & knowledge encompasses family violence, abuse & neglect, complex trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder, & children’s mental health. She has presented across Canada on how trauma impacts children’s wellness including their social, emotional, spiritual & physical development, in addition to their ability to learn, focusing on the significance of providing a trauma-informed system that is responsive to the needs of children, youth & their families. Dr. Ward has a strong focus on building staff resilience & understands the interconnections between staff wellness & organizational trauma & stress. Barbara believes in the collaboration & partnerships that successfully create “a village to raise a child”. Barbara completed her PhD with the Taos Institute & Vrije University Brussels, Belgium. She is a member of The Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers & has a MSW from Wilfrid Laurier & a BA from the University of Waterloo.
