Trauma Informed Approach to Communication
April 14 @ 1:00 pm – April 15 @ 4:00 pm
This training builds on previous trauma informed care knowledge and practical application to communication within service settings and with diverse communities – including Indigenous communities. This training will assist those in the health and social services fields to build their comfort level in delivering services using trauma informed care (TIC) principles with a focus on trauma informed communication. TIC communication is important in our practice as it recognizes the prevalence of trauma and provides for the opportunity for service providers to integrate a knowledge framework about trauma in all aspects of service delivery. Doing so provides the opportunity to create safer spaces, allows for voices to be heard and trauma stories validated. Communication in a trauma informed way creates inclusive and supportive service delivery while avoiding retraumatizing those we are supporting.
