Vicarious resilience, compassion satisfaction, and self-care
2022-11-23 @ 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm
Many providers working in the helping profession, engage in this type of work because they are compassionate and empathetic. However, high caseloads and repeated exposure to traumatic stories can affect their mental health over time, leading to burnout, compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. But alongside concepts of vicarious trauma and compassion fatigue, it’s important to recognize the strength and growth that providers derive from engaging in this type of work, and to also think about concepts of vicarious resilience and compassion satisfaction. This webinar will examine both the positive and negative impacts of trauma work.
After attending this webinar you will be able to:
• describe the risk factors for compassion fatigue and secondary trauma
• recognize warning signs of compassion fatigue and secondary trauma
• apply prevention and management strategies
• define “vicarious resilience” and reflect on how service providers may be positively affected by working with clients who are survivors of trauma.
