We Are All Treaty People

February 20 @ 1:00 pm 2:30 pm

An interactive learning session that will explore your personal relationship to land on which you live and work, connect you to the communities who have stewarded the land since time immemorial, and encourage folks to consider what Reconciliation looks like as an individual and as part of the larger ecosystem in which we operate as service providers in Ontario.

Participants will learn more about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and what this looks like almost a decade later.

Participants will be encouraged to think about what a personal act of reconciliation can look like and how small actions can combine to create a momentum of positive change.

Participants engage with material that explores systemic racism and the historical and current day issues that face Indigenous people, especially those who are justice-involved.

Terri Jaffe (she/her) is an Indigenous woman born on Treaty Six, apprehended at birth and raised by non-indigenous parents in the GTA.  She has spent a lifetime working to re-connect to the culture of her ancestors and birth and is a passionate advocate for people whose lives are impacted by colonial systems and who are looking to Indigenous ways of knowing, doing and being as a healing path.  She is currently working for 2-Spirited People of the First Nations as the Community Reintegration Planning Table Coordinator, supporting woman, 2S and trans folks exiting incarceration from Vanier Center for Women.  She was previously employed at Native Child and Family Services of Toronto where she led the Cultural Team in providing cultural and ceremonial supports to staff and community.  She also led the Peaceful Relations Circle, building a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging strategy grounded in Indigenous cultural values.

Terri is a member of the Board of Directors for TO Live, a mother of three and a cancer survivor.  When she’s not attending community events you can find her cooking for family and friends or wandering in nature with her partner and pups.
