People living with mental health symptoms or diagnosis, or a developmental disability may access alternatives to criminal prosecution. This process is known as a mental health diversion. If the Crown Attorney believes the symptoms of mental health are related to the criminal activity, he or she may determine that mental health diversion is an appropriate action. The Canadian Mental Health Association – Lambton Kent Branch’s mental health court support service provides support to these individuals with mental health diagnosis or symptoms of mental heath who have been charged with a criminal offence navigate this system.
