What Does It Mean to be BRAVE: An Introduction to Sunnybrook’s Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program – Webinar – 2024-11-21

This webinar will focus on the Sunnybrook Health Science Centre’s Breaking the Cycle of Violence with Empathy (BRAVE) program. BRAVE is a hospital response to address the increased cases of violent injury to young people in Toronto.

The program aims to reduce risk factors and increase protective factors for violence by promoting positive alternatives to violence to reduce retaliation, criminal involvement and re-injury among youth injured by violence. BRAVE uses a public health approach to violence prevention, recognizing the modifiable risk factors, including the social determinants of health and systemic racism. This presentation will introduce the concept of HVIPs, describe how BRAVE operates today and the impact of the program since it began in 2020.
