CBT Skills for Complex Mental Health Co-morbidities

June 19 @ 10:00 am 4:00 pm

The workshop will review methods to conceptualise co-morbidity in mental health, prevalence, patterns and its impact on the outcomes of mental health conditions. A phenomenological approach to Cognitive behavioural therapy is useful to delineate and formulate co-morbidity. This goes beyond the formulation framework of most therapies and often goes unaddressed in teaching therapy approaches. The workshop also provides pragmatic decision-making approaches to addressing conditions based on functional impact and ease of developing the interventions. This leads to a pyramidal build-up of skills and clinical improvement in the clients. Attendees can take away skills to formulate and plan evidence-based treatment for co-morbid conditions with hands-on practice during the session.

By the end of this workshop, learners will:

  1. Understand the prevalence , models, patterns and impact of co-morbid conditions in mental health with reference to the current literature.
  2. Learn to formulate presentations of co-morbid conditions and avoid pitfalls in engaging the clients.
  3. Plan interventions and become familiar with key skills to intervene with co-morbid conditions.
  4. Become aware of synergy between CBT and other psychiatric interventions for co-morbid condition and how best to utilise this.
