Family Caregiver Training: Managing Risk for Substance Use with Psychosis
February 26 @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
These training sessions are intended for family caregivers. Through interactive discussions and case studies you will learn a risk-management approach by employing harm reduction, abstinence, and Motivational Interviewing techniques; how to minimize risk from substance use for those living with psychosis; and how to intervene and provide the support they need.
In these two sessions you will learn the following:
- Understanding substance use amongst people living with psychosis
- Different approaches to substance use (i.e., harm reduction, abstinence)
- Reducing stigma associated with substance use
- Using Motivational Interviewing to minimize risks and create change
- Scripts and practical tools used to talk about substance use with your family member
- Working through case studies to practice implementing these tools
